ICR reports that Volkov and Goryachev “were announced as subjects to the international arrest warrant in the context of the criminal case investigation conducted by Central Investigation Department of IC of Russia regarding the organizers and participants of the extremist organization “BORN” on charges of gangsterism, illegal trade of weapons, ammunition, and explosive devices, the murder of the Moscow City Court judge Edward Chivashov, lawyer Stanislav Markelov, leaders of so-called anti-fascist movements Fedor Filatov, Ilya Dzhaparidze, and Ivan Khutorsky, Muay Thai world champion Muslim Abdullaev, residents Salakhedin Azizov, Rasul Khalilov, Soso Hachikyan, attempted murder of Ramazan Nurichuev and member of law enforcment agency Gagik Benyaminyan”. Among other charges, M. Volkov was particularly accused of complicity in the murder of antifascist Fedor Filatov, and shooting of student Rasul Khalilov in 2009, who was involved in the case of the “Black Hawks” group.
In the course of the investigation concerning Volkov, he was accused in accordance with Part 2 of Article 282.1, Part 2 of Article 209, paragraphs “a”, “g”, “h”, “k” of Part 2 of Article 105, and Part 3 of Article 222 СС (participation in an extremist organization, participation in a gang, murder, illegal weapon trade).
A preventive detention was chosen by Basmanny District Court of Moscow upon the motion of the investigation.
On May 14, security service of Ukraine reported that Volkov was arrested for 40 days until the beginning of the process of extradition to Russia.
It should be pointed out that previously Mikhail Volkov, a member of “United Brigade-88” (“UB-88”), served as one of the organizers of the pogrom of April 30, 2001 that took place in Moscow near the Tsaritsyno metro station. He had bought armature on the market and cut bars out of it, which he and his accomplices distributed among the teenagers. Then, the armed crowd went to the metro station where they started to beat traders of “non-Slavic appearance”. As a result, 3 people were killed and more than 20 were injured. The Moscow City Court sentenced Volkov to 9 years of maximum security imprisonment, but the Supreme Court commuted it down to 5.
